Border permission tool

Can this vehicle cross here?

Turn a border, ferry or controlled-road plan into a record you can verify: who permits the vehicle, which documents and accounts are needed, what the time window is, and where you will go if the answer changes.

Build a crossing-by-crossing plan

Use one record for each border crossing, ferry booking or controlled entry. Keep the vehicle permission, insurance, documents and operator evidence together instead of assuming that a passport or an open road is enough.

Runs in this browser only. No passport number, plate number, booking reference, vehicle identity or route data is sent to a network service or saved in local storage.

Record the exact crossing and vehicle

Separate road borders, ferries, tunnels and controlled roads when their operator, appointment or permission rules differ. Unknown and conflicting answers stay in the verification queue.

Record the real vehicle, driver and travel window. This worksheet does not decide entry rights or read live border status. Unknown, restricted, denied or conflicting information can never support an Allowed decision.

Prints the crossing records, decision counts, open checks and duplicate or conflict reminders.

Treat a border as a permission chain

A passport, an open road and a ferry reservation answer different questions. The vehicle must also be permitted by its owner or rental provider, insured for the countries and route, documented for the traveller and vehicle, and accepted by the operator or authority.

Record one row at every point where the permission chain changes. Save the official evidence and next check time, then name an alternative crossing before you need it. This keeps a changed rule from becoming a last-minute improvisation.

1. Identify the controlling party

For a road border, start with the border or customs authority. For a ferry, add the carrier's vehicle and document rules. For a controlled road, bridge or tunnel, record the operator or road authority that can refuse access.

2. Match the vehicle to the permission

Rental cars, borrowed vehicles, company cars, trailers and motorhomes may need separate permission, dimensions, insurance or registration. Ask for written confirmation when the contract or authority rule is not explicit.

3. Keep an exit plan

A confirmed booking does not remove border controls, customs requirements or a changed operator decision. Keep an alternative crossing, route or overnight plan and recheck the official source at the recorded time.

Official and authoritative references

These are stable starting points, not a live border-status feed. Use the exact border, customs, ferry and road authority linked in your record for the final decision.

Border crossing planner questions

Does this planner tell me whether a border is open right now?

No. It intentionally has no network lookup or live border feed. Record the latest notice from the responsible authority or operator, add its check time and schedule the next verification.

Can a rental car cross a border if the route is in the same region?

Not automatically. Ask the rental provider before the trip whether the vehicle may enter every planned country or territory, which documents and insurance are supplied, and whether a fee or written permission applies.

What should I record for a ferry crossing?

Record the carrier, vehicle booking, dimensions or trailer details, passenger documents, check-in window, payment or account rule, and what happens if the sailing or booking is changed. Keep the carrier's official confirmation in the evidence field.

Is a passport enough for a road border?

Not always. Traveller documents, visas and temporary border controls are separate from vehicle registration, insurance, rental permission, customs rules and controlled-road access. Check each responsible authority and keep unresolved items out of an Allowed decision.

What does Unknown mean in this tool?

Unknown means the source check is incomplete. It is deliberately treated as unresolved: the record remains in the checklist, and an Allowed decision receives a warning until the relevant authority, insurer, operator or provider confirms the rule.

Can I use the tool for a borrowed or company vehicle?

Yes. Record who owns the vehicle, the written authority to take it across the border, registration and insurance evidence, any customs or company-car restriction, and a fallback if the authority letter or cover is not accepted.
