The provider’s answer controls

Age, licence and insurance rules vary by provider, vehicle, territory and contract. A driver may be legally licensed yet still be excluded from the rental agreement or cover.

Keep the original licence, any requested translation or IDP, the signed contract, written permission, fee receipt and coverage wording together. Recheck at pickup if the branch, car or driver changes.

1. Capture the real threshold

Enter the provider’s age and licence-tenure requirement from the contract or written reply. Do not substitute a country’s minimum driving age for a rental-company rule.

2. Separate naming from coverage

A driver can be named but have conditional cover, or have a valid licence but no contract permission. Record both answers and their evidence.

3. Decide before pickup

Choose Proceed, Hold, Replace or Cancel, set a review date and write the fallback. A last-minute verbal promise is not a closed record.

Rental additional-driver FAQs

Does this tool decide whether someone is legally allowed to drive?

No. It compares the driver details you enter with the provider’s own recorded threshold and permission. Check the issuing authority, rental contract and insurer when a legal or coverage question remains.

Why record the provider’s age and licence-tenure thresholds?

Rental companies can apply thresholds that are higher than the road authority’s minimum. Recording both the actual driver values and the quoted provider threshold makes the reason for a hold visible.

Is a valid licence enough to add a driver?

No. The person may still need to be named in the contract, meet the vehicle and territory rules, pay a fee and be covered by the provider’s insurance and roadside terms.

Can I enter a zero additional-driver fee?

Yes, when the contract or provider confirms that the fee is zero or included. Keep the fee condition and evidence; an empty field is not the same as a confirmed zero.

Why are duplicate or conflicting records blocked?

Two notes about the same contract, route and driver should not silently produce two decisions. Identical records are duplicates; different permission, coverage, fee or decision answers are conflicts that need comparison.

Does the worksheet upload my driver documents?

No. The page runs locally in your browser and does not upload, save to a server, use localStorage or use sessionStorage. Do not paste sensitive document numbers unless you are comfortable printing them.
