Give the historic road a full day
Visit Jordan estimates the King’s Highway from Amman to Petra at roughly 274 kilometres and 4 to 4.5 driving hours without stops. Madaba, Karak, Dana and Shobak can turn it into an overnight route.
This itinerary sleeps near Karak or Dana before Wadi Musa. Select one castle stop each day rather than collecting every pin.
Use five sleeping areas
Stay in Amman, near Karak or Dana, two nights in Wadi Musa, one at a Wadi Rum camp reached by transfer and one by the Dead Sea.
The final night can move back to Amman when the departure flight is early.
Keep the first day car-light
Collect only when the branch and hotel parking plan are clear. Amman sightseeing works without carrying luggage in the vehicle.
Seven days from Amman to the south
Day 1: Amman arrival
Collect in daylight or leave the car until the next morning. Inspect tyres, glass, fuel and supplied tools.
Save Madaba parking and the exact hotel entrance. Stay one night in Amman.
Day 2: Madaba and Karak
Leave outside rush hour, stop in Madaba and continue south on Highway 35. Use recognised parking before walking the centre.
Reach Karak or a nearby highland base before dark. Keep the castle visit for the next morning when arrival slips.
Day 3: Karak or Dana to Wadi Musa
Choose Karak Castle, Dana village or Shobak according to the starting base and current access. Do not schedule all three.
Continue to Wadi Musa and stay two nights. Park at the hotel and confirm the Petra entrance route on foot or by shuttle.
Day 4: Petra from opening
Visit Petra lists seasonal opening hours and services through the official visitor centre. Recheck the current schedule and ticket conditions before the day.
Carry water, sun protection and footwear with grip. Leave enough energy for the return walk through the Siq.
Day 5: Wadi Musa to Wadi Rum
Use the Desert Highway or the confirmed southern connection and refill before the camp meeting point. Hand the off-road section to the operator.
Stay one night. Confirm where the rental remains and when the operator returns you.
Day 6: Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea
Collect the car after the camp transfer and use the named highway selected from live conditions. Fuel before the long Dead Sea section.
Reach the chosen hotel in daylight and use its car park. Stay one night.
Day 7: Dead Sea to Amman
Keep the morning local, then return toward Amman with airport or branch margin. Do not leave wet saltwater gear loose in the cabin.
Refuel, photograph the car and ask for a closed agreement.
Add Aqaba with two more nights
Aqaba deserves a separate coastal stay. Adding it to day six would turn Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea into a rushed transit.
Separate the three highways
The King’s Highway serves the historic highland stages. The Desert Highway provides a faster southern line, while Highway 65 follows the Dead Sea.
Write the road number beside each day. Navigation settings should support the plan rather than choose the experience.
Watch the town approaches
Reduce speed before settlements and expect humps, pedestrians and local traffic. Leave a larger gap behind buses so the road surface remains visible.

Avoid dark desert arrivals
Livestock, unlit vehicles and road debris reduce the safe stopping margin. Call the lodging and remove a stop before daylight disappears.
Keep Petra and Wadi Rum distinct
Petra is a long walking day reached from Wadi Musa. Wadi Rum requires a confirmed meeting point and operator vehicle beyond the paved access.
Do not combine a full Petra visit with a late desert check-in. Use separate nights.
Carry the documents with you
Keep passports, licences, contract and payment cards out of the parked rental. Leave luggage at the hotel before site visits.

Finish near the airport
For an early flight, move the final night to Amman or the airport area. A Dead Sea morning and rental inspection should not control check-in time.
