The Aegean coast combines archaeological sites with long waterfront evenings. Seven days give the car a clear role between towns while keeping Izmir, Ephesus and the southern coast from collapsing into a single 1,000-kilometre dash.

Choose one direction from Izmir
GoTürkiye’s official Aegean route links Assos, Pergamon and Ephesus before continuing through sites farther south. Covering the full published sequence in five days suits a fast itinerary; this plan uses seven days and fewer overnight changes.
Start with Bergama north of Izmir, then turn south for Selçuk and the coast. Datça can serve as the southern target only when the driver accepts the longer final transfers.
Book around the fixed sites
Check archaeological opening hours, ticket arrangements and the last admission for the travel dates. Put one major site on a day, then add a town walk or beach stop.
Summer heat can make midday stone sites tiring. An early entry also leaves more flexibility for parking and the next check-in.
Keep the final base within reach
If the return flight leaves from Izmir, spend the last night near the city or airport. A distant peninsula should not control the departure morning.
Seven days from Izmir to the southern coast
Day 1: Izmir arrival
Explore Izmir without the rental or place the car in a booked garage. Save the branch entrance, HGS process and next accommodation parking before sleeping.
Collect on departure morning when the city stay ends.
Day 2: Izmir to Bergama
Drive north to Bergama and use the official visitor parking for Pergamon. UNESCO lists Pergamon and its cultural landscape as a World Heritage property.
Stay locally or return toward Izmir’s outer edge. Do not combine Pergamon with Ephesus on the same day.
Day 3: Bergama to Selçuk
Travel south, passing Izmir without a central detour. Reach Selçuk with enough daylight to find the lodging entrance and leave the car.
Stay two nights. A stable base keeps luggage out of the vehicle during Ephesus.
Day 4: Ephesus and Selçuk
Arrive near opening time and use the designated entrance parking. UNESCO’s Ephesus listing covers a sequence of sites rather than one building, so allow a substantial walking block.
Return to the same lodging. Add the town or museum only if heat and energy allow.
Day 5: Selçuk to the southern base
Choose Bodrum, Marmaris or a town that fits the return plan. GoTürkiye’s archaeological itinerary continues through the Aegean region, but this driving day needs one overnight target.
Enter the accommodation parking before dark. Coastal streets can narrow near waterfront hotels.
Day 6: Coast without a hotel move
Use a full day for a beach, boat trip or nearby site. Leave the car at the lodging when local transport removes a parking search.
If Datça is the chosen base, treat the peninsula road as part of the day and reduce the stop list.
Day 7: Return toward Izmir
Leave a generous margin for fuel, motorway tolls and the branch inspection. A final airport-side night works better when the flight is early.
Add Assos with two more days
Assos lies north of Bergama and fits a northern extension. Add two nights instead of forcing it into Day 2.
Respect heat and site walking
Carry water, sun protection and shoes suited to polished stone. Keep them accessible rather than buried beneath luggage.
Do not leave bags visible at visitor car parks. Move overnight luggage into the accommodation before a long visit when possible.
Avoid roadside viewpoints
Use marked lay-bys and public lots. Coastal shoulders may disappear at a bend or serve local traffic.

Stop before concentration falls
Heat and a long archaeological visit can leave the driver tired. Skip the last beach stop and reach the booked base in daylight.
Finish with toll and parking records
Photograph the final condition, mileage and fuel level. Ask when HGS transactions from the final motorway can appear.
Keep archaeological parking receipts and hotel garage invoices with the route log. Remove the rental plate from payment apps.
Use one map for the next morning
Save the next car park, site entrance and lodging vehicle gate. Site names can lead to different entrances several kilometres apart.
Leave cross-border plans outside the loop
