A week in the UAE can move from Dubai to Hatta, the oasis city of Al Ain and Abu Dhabi on paved roads. Three bases keep the journey clear of dune tracks and give mountain activities cooler morning slots.
This UAE mountains and oases road trip uses two nights in Dubai, two in Hatta or Al Ain and two in Abu Dhabi, with a final airport night placed where the flight requires. Check the UAE driving overview and the Salik and parking guide first.
Keep the route on paved roads
Dubai, Hatta, Al Ain, Jebel Hafeet and Abu Dhabi connect without entering dunes. Use a licensed operator for desert driving or activities.
Ask each hotel for the vehicle entrance, parking height and current approach. Save road numbers and intermediate towns.
Use three main bases
Spend two nights in Dubai, one or two around Hatta, two in Al Ain and the remaining night in Abu Dhabi. A compact version can visit Hatta on the transfer to Al Ain.
The airport choice determines whether Abu Dhabi or Dubai makes the better finish.
Start after the flight night
Collect in daylight and avoid a mountain transfer after a long flight. Use the first day for inspection, toll setup and local parking.
Seven days from Dubai to Abu Dhabi
Day 1: collect in Dubai
Photograph the plate, Salik tag, body, tyres, fuel and mileage. Drive to confirmed hotel parking and leave the car there.
Ask the branch how toll and parking charges appear after return.
Day 2: Dubai with the car parked
Use public transport for central sights and keep the rental in the hotel garage. This avoids a day of repeated parking and Salik crossings.
Prepare the Hatta road, fuel stop and hotel entrance in the evening.
Day 3: Dubai to Hatta
Leave outside the Dubai peak period and follow the confirmed paved route. Visit Dubai places Hatta a little over an hour from the city and highlights the dam and outdoor facilities.
Stay one night or continue only when the Al Ain hotel can still be reached in daylight.
Day 4: Hatta to Al Ain
Use the named inter-emirate roads and check the route against border-adjacent navigation suggestions. Refuel before leaving the larger service area.
Stay two nights in Al Ain. Park at the hotel and keep the afternoon local.
Day 5: Al Ain and Jebel Hafeet
Drive the paved Jebel Hafeet road in the cooler morning or late afternoon. Experience Abu Dhabi identifies the mountain as a 45-kilometre Al Ain driving itinerary.
Descend in a suitable gear and stop only at marked viewpoints. Return to the same hotel.
Day 6: Al Ain to Abu Dhabi
Leave after breakfast and reach Abu Dhabi before the evening peak. Ask the hotel how Darb tolls and parking apply to the assigned plate.
Stay one night. Use the hotel car park and walk or use public transport for the evening.
Day 7: Abu Dhabi and return
Keep the car parked until the airport or Dubai transfer. Recheck toll timing, refuel and allow for a branch inspection.
For a Dubai flight, add another night near the airport instead of crossing on the departure morning.
Add Khor Fakkan with two nights
An east-coast extension deserves its own base and heat margin. Do not place it between Hatta and Al Ain as a quick detour.
Plan around heat
Schedule outdoor activity for the cooler part of the day and use midday for a museum, hotel break or transfer. Carry water but stop when the driver feels heat stress or fatigue.
Take passengers and animals out of a parked vehicle. Keep electronics away from direct sun.
Inspect tyres before the climb
Check pressure and visible damage before Hatta or Jebel Hafeet. Return to a service station when a warning light appears.

Leave the dunes to an operator
Experience Abu Dhabi’s off-road guidance calls for vehicle, tyre, four-wheel-drive and supply preparation. A paved itinerary does not provide that experience or equipment.
Keep tolls visible in the plan
Salik and Darb use different systems and charging schedules. Write down the day, road and approximate crossing time.
The rental company should explain how each transaction and fee reaches the final bill.
Park once in each city
Choose hotels with confirmed parking and use other transport for dense central areas. Photograph any street-zone sign and payment confirmation.

Close the return before departure
Photograph the fuel gauge, mileage, body, wheels and glass. Ask for a written condition report and keep it with toll records until the deposit clears.
